Reconstitution Overview
Most research peptides are supplied as lyophilized (freeze-dried) powders. Before use, the powder must be reconstituted by dissolving it in a suitable solvent — most commonly bacteriostatic water (BW). Use a slow, steady injection of solvent against the vial wall to avoid degrading the peptide. Never shake the vial; swirl gently until fully dissolved.
Recommended Solvents
- Bacteriostatic Water (0.9% Benzyl Alcohol) — preferred for most peptides; benzyl alcohol acts as a preservative and extends usable life after reconstitution.
- Sterile Water for Injection (WFI) — use when benzyl alcohol is contraindicated for the specific compound; shorter usable life after opening.
- Acetic Acid (0.1–1%) — used for peptides with low solubility in aqueous solvents such as certain growth-hormone-releasing peptides.
Storage Guidelines
- Lyophilized powder — store at −20 °C (freezer) for long-term stability; refrigerator (2–8 °C) is acceptable for short-term storage of up to a few weeks.
- Reconstituted solution — refrigerate at 2–8 °C and use within 30 days. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, which can degrade potency.
- Keep all vials away from direct light and heat. Use amber vials or foil wrapping where available.
